Verneinung (Negation)
German has two main negation words: nicht and kein. Choosing between them depends on what is being negated.

kein Declension
kein declines like ein (indefinite article). Each case page shows the kein forms in its Negation row — see Nominativ, Akkusativ, and Dativ.
Position of nicht
nicht moves around the sentence depending on what it negates.

Common Mistakes
Double Negation
German does not use double negation. Choose one negation word:
- ✗ Niemand hat nichts gesagt. (double negation — wrong)
- ✓ Niemand hat etwas gesagt. (nobody said anything)
- ✓ Nichts wurde gesagt. (nothing was said)
